CORE: Revive! Awakening Mind, Body & Soul

Saturday, May 1, 9am-2:15pm

It's time to REVIVE! If you're in need of spiritual, physical or emotional renourishment, this  one-day, whole-health retreat will leave you feeling re-energized in all areas of mind, body and soul. CORE: Revive! is an event for all ages, men and women. $30/Adult, $15/Student (12-21), $10/Lunchtime Keynote only, $10/Child (5K-5th grade), Free/0-4 year olds.

Led by professional fitness instructors, healthy chefs, mental health counselors and pastors, CORE: Revive! offers a mix of interactive and informational classes on fitness, emotional wellness, nutrition & spiritual motivation-- culminating in our Feature Presentation delivered by Dave Dravecky, former MLB pitcher, cancer survivor and author.

What else is included in the price? A delicious and nutritious lunch, prepared by our in-house Chef Regina, is also included in your registration fee, as well as a CORE backpack, water bottles for the day, snacks and a Health Expo of booth vendors offering health screenings by registered nurses, farm-to-table vegetable plants, book-signings, healthy food tastings and more. To complete your on-line registration, you can opt to pay via Paypal or Check. If you pay by Check, it must be delivered to EPC's CLC or Medway reception desk, in order to secure your reservation.

BYOYoga mat! Extras will be on hand, but please remember to bring your own Yoga mat for the Fitness Segment. 

NOTE: This is a rain-or-shine event, with many classes held indoors as well as a large tent on the field for outdoor classes/presentations. If it rains, bring a rain jacket and/or umbrella for walking to and from classes.

10:00am Emotional Wellness Segment-- "Calming Anxiety" with Live Oak Counselling Center's Director/Counselor Nancy Smith; "Self-Compassion & Mindfulness: Improving Your Relationships and Decreasing Anxiety" with Live Oak's Counselor Susan Yelverton; and "Finding Calm Focus for Our Families" with Dr. Betsy Grier, PhD, Pediatric School Psychology: Evaluation & Consutation Services. (Locations: Sanctuary, Thompson Hall and CLC 269-275)

11:00am Healthy Cooking Segment-- "Rooted: Whole-Food Based With Heavenly Taste" with Primal Gourmet's Chef Greg Martin, accompanied by Jennifer Boyd, General Manager (Location: CLC Gym) 

12:00pm Lunch Served, and Health Expo opens on Field.

12:30pm Keynote Presentation-- "Comeback: Overcoming Adversity Again & Again" with Dave Dravecky, former MLB pitcher, cancer survivor and author of Comeback and The Worth of a Man. Book-signing to follow. (Location: Field)

1:30pm Fitness Segment-- "Total Body Toning: A Fitness Revival!" Mix of low- and medium-impact exercises, including Pilates, Core Strengthening and Barre, with Fitness Instructors Heather Stokes & Nicki Wilson  (Location: Field) 

2:15pm  KidCore/Nursery closes. Health Expo on Field remains open til 3pm.

Dave DraveckyFeatured Speaker: Dave Dravecky                        Former MLB Pitcher, Cancer Survivor, Author of Comeback               If there's ever been a life story of resiliance, this is it. Dave's story is one of finding hope, courage and perseverance in the midst of dark and overwhelming uncertainty. Keynote Presentation: "Comeback: Overcoming Adversity Again & Again"  

Heather StokesHeather Stokes, Fitness Instructor                         With years of experience in Columbia gyms, Heather has become a high-demand fitness instructor and personal trainer in the Capital City. She is certified to teach a variety of high- and medium-impact classes, such as Barre and Sh'Bam-- both which will be a part of the CORE:Revive Fitness Segment: "Total Body Toning: A Fitness Revival!" (mix of Barre, Pilates and Core Strengthening)

Nicki WilsonNicki Wilson, Fitness Instructor                             Pilates is Nicki's specialty! As an avid runner for several years, she discovered Pilates and its benefits for flexibility, stability, strength and correct posture. In 2010, she became a certified instructor and has taught Pilates ever since. Nicki will join Heather Stokes as the fitness duo for the CORE event. CORE: Revive Fitness Segment: "Total Body Toning: A Fitness Revival!" (mix of Barre, Pilates and Core Strengthening) 

GM Jennifer Boyd Chef Greg Martin            Jennifer Boyd and Chef/Owner Greg Martin, Primal Gourmet             A Columbia native, Jennifer is the General Manager of Primal Gourmet in West Columbia, a whole-food kitchen and market that provides freshly-prepared, healthy food options for the modern lifestyle. Jennifer will be accompanied by the Primal Gourmet Owner/Chef Greg Martin at this year's CORE event. Greg has been an executive chef in well-known, upscale restaurants in both Charleston and Columbia, where he found his love for nutrition and meal planning. Helping people live better through proper nutrition became a passion for him, which led to the opening of Primal Gourmet, here in his hometown. At the CORE event, Jennifer and Greg will present the  Healthy Cooking Segment: "Rooted: Whole-Food Based With Heavenly Taste."

 

Nancy SmithNancy Smith, MSW, LISW-CP                              Director/Counselor of Live Oak Counseling Center                             At Live Oak Counseling Center, Nancy works with older teens and adults struggling with anxiety, depression, grief, family issues and parenting issues. She is a Licenced Independent Social Worker in Clinical Practice and has extensive training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and treatment of anxiety. She resides in Columbia with her husband, Brad Smith, Senior Pastor at Eastminster. Nancy's class in the CORE: Revive Emotional Wellness Segment: "Calming Anxiety: Mind, Body & Soul"


Susan Yelverton Susan Yelverton, LISW-CP                              Counselor, Live Oak Counseling Center                                               Susan is a Licensed Social Worker in Clinical Practice at Live Oak Counseling Center in Columbia. Prior to this, Susan served as a staff therapist at the Prisma Health Adolescent Recovery Center and the Prisma Health Adult Day Treatment Program. She was also trained in the Dialectical Behavior Therapy program at Columbia Area Mental Health. Susan's class in the CORE: Revive Emotional Wellness Segment is "Self-Compassion & Mindfulness For Improving Relationships and Decreasing Anxiety." 

Dr. Betsy Grier, PhD, NCSP                                     Pediatric School Psychology: Evaluation and Consulation Serv.    Dr. Grier is a licensed psychologist who received her masters in clinical psychology from Pepperdine University in CA and her doctorate in school psychology from the University of South Florida in Tampa with specialization areas in Pediatric School Psychology and Family Consulation. While in Florida, she worked in hospital and public school settings. After moving to SC to work at the USC School of Medicine, she participated on an interdisciplinary team of pediatric professionals to evaluate children. She also developed a Pediatric Behavioral Health Program. Currently, Dr. Grier works in her own private practice, using an interdisciplinary model for evaluation and intervention. She continues her efforts supporting Ped. Behavioral Health and promoting collaborative efforts among medical professional, educators and others. Dr. Grier is active in publishing and presenting clinical/evidence-based work at local, regional and natonal events. Dr. Grier's class in the CORE: Revive Emotional Wellness Segment is "Finding Calm Focus for our Families."

KidCore and Nursery

KidCore is a special program designed for children ages K5-5th Grade, led by EPC's Director of Children's Ministries, Croskeys Royall. Featuring KidYoga with instructor Laura Wentzky; Storytime & Drawing Project with Author Jonathan Mashack (www.ollyaga.com); KidBootCamp with Personal Trainer Susanne Hicklin; and Pottery with Croskeys. A healthy lunch and snacks are also included in the total KidCore registration fee, $10. Drop-off/Pick-up Location: CLC Lobby. (Volunteers will be on hand to guide your children to the KidCore location in the Adult Reception Hall, 3rd fl of the Education Building.)  

The Nursery is offered FREE for children ages 0-4, whose parents are registered to attend CORE: Revive! Space will be limited, and registration for each child is required.  Parents must pack and send a lunch box with children in the Nursery. The Nursery is located inside the CLC entrance, down the right hallway.
