Job Saves

Vadis

Please join us on Tuesday, May 4 for our seminar, "Job Saves" with Vadis

Often as employment consultants, we experience the potential of a client losing their job. It is important to advocate for our clients in these situations while being solution-oriented to assist them with getting back on track and retaining their positions. In this training, we will give you tools and suggestions on how to minimize job losses for your clients through proactive problem solving, identifying verbal and nonverbal signs from an employer, gathering information, and having clear and productive communication with employers. Our goal is for you to have solutions and strategies to solve any concerns of an employer before they result in a job loss for your client.

Learning Objectives:
  • Employment consultants will be able to identify when an employer is considering letting a client go from the job.
  • Employment consultants will be more comfortable engaging in proactive and solution-oriented conversations with job-site supervisors.
  • Employment consultants will learn new tools and strategies that can be implemented to save the job.

Meet the Panel:

                                                                TJ Protho

TJ Protho is a Program Manager at Vadis in the King County area. Originally from Colorado Springs, Colorado, TJ packed up his car at the beginning of 2014 and headed to the Pacific Northwest. Within months of being in a new city, TJ discovered not only Vadis but the world of supported employment. With his B.A. in Psychology and background in addiction counseling, TJ was able to use his motivational interviewing skills to help his clients reach for success. As the years went on, TJ expanded from Individual Employment to oversee programs in Community Inclusion and School to Work in King County. In recent years, TJ implemented an Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee at Vadis where he can lend his strong voice and desire to see change to better supporting staff and clients of Vadis.

Ann Jensen

Ann Jensen is a Lead Employment Consultant at Vadis in King County. Growing up in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, Ann had experience at a young age with people with disabilities. Her mother, a special education teacher, would often bring Ann to school with her in the summers to be an assistant. Her father, a sculptor, helped her see the world through artist-eyes, that everything is beautiful in its own, unique way. She attended WSU for her double major in Education and Special education and her 5th year at SPU for Learning Styles. Ann was lucky to have spent 2 years living in France where she traveled, and taught English in exchange for French cooking lessons! Ann worked as a teacher for 25+ years in special education settings for students ages 5-21 who had behavioral, social, emotional and/or academic needs. She received a Master’s in Educational Technology from AIU. After substituting for a year Ann found Vadis. After almost seven years, many clients, and job-finds for Independent Employment Services later, she continues to find joy in her work. Being on the School-to-Work Team, and the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee, Ann lends her talents and skills to the myriad of good that Vadis does..

*Supported employment is rooted in the firm belief that all people deserve respect, dignity, and self-determination. Here at Wise, we are committed to standing up for and embracing positive changes in policies and practices to stamp out oppression and discrimination in our institutions and systems. We are focused on our mission of inclusion and equitable employment for people with disabilities. With this in mind, we ask that all participants extend respect, humility and grace during our events. We strive to create a learning platform where we all leave with new ways of thinking, doing and moving supported employment forward.
