         What You May Have Forgotten About From the "01" Family-AIA B101, C401, A201, A101

AIA's model agreements are divided into different groups, so called "families." The "01" Family is the basic model agreement group, used with a typical design-bid project delivery method. This program will provide the participants with a refresher of what they may have forgotten when they first read these documents.

This class will provide an overview with at least the high points of the four documents that every architect should be familiar with, and explain why every document within a family must be coordinated with each other. A correctly coordinated set of documents is crucial to benefit everyone and most importantly, the health, safety and welfare of all end users and the public.

This course is taught by Eric Pempus, FAIA, Esq., NCARB, Risk Manager from Design Pro Insurance Group, A Wichert Insurance Agency.

Learning Objectives

Understand how contract terms and conditions within the "01" Family establish the responsibilities and expectations of each project participant, that impacts not only the architect, but its consultants, contractors on the project, the project owner, and the health, safety and welfare of all end users and the public.

Consider how to utilize contract documents as project and risk management tools, and as guides to better ensure the health, safety and welfare of project participants and the greater good of the public.

Discuss the key items in the in the "01"Family affecting an architect that should be addressed and understood before any project begins, to minize misunderstandings and project delays, that impacts the health, safety and welfare of all end users and the public.

Share and explore the critical terms and conditions that are typically changed by clients (or clients' attorneys), causing risk management ripple effects for not only the architect, but its consultants, contractors on the project, the project owner, and the health, safety and welfare of all end users and the public.
