The Ohio State School for the Blind offers multiple summer camps for students who are blind or have low vision and live in Ohio. OSSB camps are open to students entering grades 3-12. Please read through the Important Information section to understand our registration process.

Zoo Adventure Camp: June 6-June 10
Grades: 3rd-4th
Max 8 students
Through project-based learning, students will discover how to be zookeepers and have a BLAST at Zoo Adventure Camp! Students will design their own zoo building for their town using real-world math and literacy application. Students will explore different zoo habitats and the animals that inhabit them while practicing several common core math and literary standards along the way. Activities will include field trips, outdoor learning, tactile materials, music, and art.

STEM Camp I: June 6-June 10
Grades: 5th-7th

STEM Camp provides a fun, accessible way for children to explore their sense of wonder through structured, hands-on experiences and learning opportunities
Children collaborate with each other to explore and solve problems using creativity and ingenuity. Give your children the opportunity to be amazed by the world of STEM. STEM Camp is a convenient, enjoyable camp option for parents who want their kids engaged.
STEM Camp II: June 6-June 10
Grades: 8th-12th
Max 16 students
The theme of this year’s camp is “Flight”. Students will learn a little about Ohio History and the famous Wright brothers of Dayton, Ohio. Students will want to bring comfortable walking shoes as we hope to visit Carillon Park in Dayton and participate in educational sessions on the planes the Wright brothers built. We also plan to visit The National Museum of the United States Air Force. Camp will also provide them opportunities to make items that fly using science and math concepts. Students will work both individually and in groups throughout the week and have some fun along the way. Along with comfortable shoes and appropriate clothes the students are to bring positive attitudes for learning.
Theatre Camp: Making a Musical June 13-June 17
Grades: 7th-12th
Max 16 students
Taking inspiration from Disney and Broadway, students will try their hand at composing and performing a musical. Campers will study the basics of theatrical production, such as costume design, set design, choreography, and screenwriting. They will work together collaboratively to present an original musical at the end of camp.
Measuring up with Math Camp: June 13-June 17
Grades: 3rd-7th
Max 16 students
This camp will focus on cooking and measurement skills to learn math through active student involvement and movement. The curriculum for the camp is based on Ohio's Learning Standards for mathematics, language arts, and physical education. Students will participate in learning activities, which will be reinforced through total body movement and active participation in the learning process. Math camp will include individual and group activities featuring cooking, aquatics, and outdoor events.
Eco Braille Camp: June 27-July 1
Grades: 3rd-7th
Max 16 students
Let's improve our braille skills while learning about ecology and the environment. Eco Braille is for students with a visual impairment who currently use braille for written communication and access. This camp is geared toward students who need to improve their braille skills and currently participate in statewide testing. Students will enhance existing braille skills through fun, educational science activities based on Ohio's Learning Standards. Activities will include instruction in braille usage, ecology, the environment, letter writing, storytelling, and games.
Sports Camp-Water Wars I: July 10-15
Grades: 9th-12th
Max 16 students
Do you like making friends? Do you like being physically active and trying new activities? Then Sports Camp is for you! Sports camp is designed to give rising 7th grade through graduating seniors the opportunity to get up and move. Example activities include swimming, biking, goalball, archery. Each year physical activities rotate but no matter what the year you’re bound to have fun. Join Mr. Grim, Mrs. Kallstorm and Ms. Brewer-Wood for a week of excitement.
Sports Camp-Water Wars II: July 25-July 29
Grades: 6th-8th

ECC/ADL Camp: July 18-July 22
Grades: 7th-12th
Max 16 students
ECC Camp will focus on various areas of the Expanded Core Curriculum for students who are visually impaired. Campers will learn to prepare meals and sharpen independent living skills. Campers will learn about standard and accessible technology and complete fun, educational projects related to all things technology. Students will also participate in activities related to vocational skill development, leisure, social skills, and communication.
Band Camp: August 2nd-6th
Grades: 7th-12th
Max 25 students
Students entering grades 7-12 have the opportunity to be a part of the only Blind Marching Band in the world! Students will practice marching fundamentals during this week-long camp and learn to march and play a halftime show. Students will travel to The Ohio State University to practice with the OSU Marching Band as part of the evening activities. At the end of the week, students will invite their families to watch the debut of the new halftime show!
Requirements: Previous band experience. Non-OSSB students need to be approved by the band director.
