Grow Native! Gardening Club - May 11th

Roll up your sleeves to help beautify Ballona Discovery Park! Get hands-on experience while learning about urban ecology. The time and effort you put in to clear out invasive vegetation gives our slow-growing native plants room to thrive. Healthy plant life is vital for a healthy ecosystem!

Parking: Street parking on Bluff Creek Drive in front of the park, parking signs limit parking to 2 hours (the length of the event).

Ages: Activities are recommended for ages 7 and up. Youths 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

What to wear: Close-toed shoes are required! We recommend dressing in weather-appropriate layers that you don’t mind getting a bit dirty, along with a hat. Long pants are also recommended to protect against occasional prickly plants.

What to bring: Face mask, gloves, and your own full water bottle (required). The nearest restroom is located just under a quarter mile west of the park, at the Sports Park. We cannot provide gloves at this time due to Covid-19. We will provide all other tools and supplies.

Arrive on time: This is a short event, so we will begin promptly.

Covid-19 Protocols: Event participation is limited to 12 participants. Social distancing and masking are required.

The health and safety of the public, volunteers, interns and staff is of the utmost importance to Friends of Ballona Wetlands. To help keep all participants in our programming healthy and safe, Friends of Ballona Wetland will be implementing the following policies and procedures.

Friends of Ballona Wetlands will:

  • Limit group size based on public health recommendations
  • Maintain social distancing between staff and all participants
  • Provide hand sanitizer or wipes

Participants will:

  • Sign the waiver
  • Properly social distance from other volunteers
  • Bring and use their own face covering at all times as outlined by CDC, California and Los Angeles Public Health recommendations
  • Bring and use their own water bottle

If a participant does not bring their own face covering, they will not be allowed to participate. If a participant does not follow CDC, California and Los Angeles Public Health recommendations in relation to face coverings and social distancing, they will be asked to leave immediately.

If you are feeling symptoms such as fever, coughing, and shortness of breath, do not attend!
