APC Educational Program: Building an Inclusive Board

Date: June 24, 2021
Time: 2–3 PM ET
Session: Guide to "How to Build an Inclusive Board"

While nonprofits and philanthropic organizations are embracing the value of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility (DEIA), only half have formal diversity statements and even fewer have a diversity strategy.

Rachel Branaman of Talem Consulting will share tips and tools to educate, inspire and lead nonprofit organizations to action. Attendees will receive a copy of "Building an Inclusive Board," which:

Speaks to the value and return on investment of integrating DEIA in your organization.

Provides definitions, background information and examples relating back to the nonprofit field.

Outlines principles and practices of inclusion alongside implimentation tools.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER: Rachel Branaman is the principal of Talem Consulting, which provides nonprofits the tools they need to build capacity, fundraise, and dismantle systems of inequity. Our team builds strategies for staff, board, and volunteers to tell your story and share your impact from concept to completion. Rachel completed a Master’s in nonprofit management from Regis University with a directed study in Cape Town, South Africa. She served in development and executive director roles for a variety of arts and social service organizations as well as a two-year stint in the U.S. Peace Corps in Namibia. These experiences deepened her appreciation for diverse cultures and helped her develop culturally responsive fundraising techniques that center the concept of horizontal philanthropy. In her spare time, Rachel is a board member of Association of Philanthropic Counsel (APC), participates in grassroots advocacy in Washington D.C., and creates subversive cross stitch.
