PennAEYC CDA Credential Instruction Course. This course offers 120 hours of classroom instruction to prepare the student seeking** the CDA Credential offered from the National Council for Professional Recognition. Classes are scheduled Monday evenings from 6:30pm-9:30pm and 3 Saturday dates. PennAEYC is pleased to offer a partnership with Harrisburg Community College (HACC) to award six(6) credits for the PennAEYC CDA Course when a student enrolls in the HACC Early Childhood Education Program following the CDA completion.

Classes will meet the following times: Monday evenings from 6:30-9:30pm starting September 20, 2021 through May 23, 2022 and 3 Saturday dates. Class dates are listed below.  

  • September: Mondays-09/20, 09/27, 
  • October: Mondays-10/04, 10/11, 10/18, 10/25
  • November: Mondays-11/1, 11/8, 11/15, 11/22, 11/29
  • December: Mondays-12/06, 12/13, 12/20  (no class Monday, Dec 27) 
  • January: Mondays-1/03, 01/10, 01/17, 01/24, 1/31
  • February: Mondays-02/07, Saturday, 02/19 (6 hours + break), Mondays 02/19, 02/21, 02/28, 
  • March: Mondays-03/07, 03/14, Saturday 3/19 (6 hours + break) Mondays 03/21, 03/28 
  • April: Monday, 04/04, 04/11, Saturday 4/16 (6 hours + break) Mondays, 04/18, 04/25
  • May: Mondays-05/02, 5/09, 05/16, 05/23 
  • Last Class-Monday-*May 23, 2022 (subject to change as needed per instructor)

Class Registration Fees: Cost of the 120 clock hr. class is $100.00* due by Sept 20, 2021. *PennAEYC will fully reimburse the course registration fee ($100) upon the successful completion of the entire course in June 2022.  Refunds will NOT be given for any other reason (no-show, incomplete or cancellations)

Instructor Karen Rucker offers students her expertise and experience on the journey through the 120 clock hours of classroom instruction, portfolio development, application and follow up support in the preparation for a verification visit by the Council for Professional Recognition.

**It is important to note this this class does not award the CDA or college credits, it provides the necessary classroom instruction and prepares the student for the verification visit by the CDA council.

Program Overview:                                                                                     The CDA Credential program includes 120 clock hours of classroom instruction to prepare the student seeking** the CDA in eight key knowledge areas of early care and education. The key areas are defined by the CDA Council for ages infants through preschool; including:

1)      planning a safe, healthy learning environment

2)      advancing children’s physical and intellectual development

3)      supporting children’s social and emotional development

4)      building productive relationships with families

5)       managing an effective program

6)       maintaining a commitment to professionalism

7)       observing and recording children’s behavior; and

8)       understanding the principles of child development and learning.

Coursework includes a foundation in child development theory and practical application of developmentally-appropriate practices.
