Dear Reading Rocks Volunteer,
As the school year winds down, Reading Rocks is gearing up for a great summer full of reading. The Education Foundation welcomes you to volunteer again this year. Because of dedicated volunteers in the past, we have been able to grow the Reading Rocks program and create opportunities for students to read in a fun, relaxed environment that promotes literacy. Volunteers, such as you, have made Reading Rocks into a great summer literacy program.
Reading Rocks 2021 is looking forward to an outstanding summer. This year's Reading Rocks program will look pretty close to normal. We will be having guest speakers again, volunteers will have the opportunity to read with children, and children will get to pick their own book. We are happy to say that we will have a guest speaker at Reading Rocks everyday, although we will not be using community blankets. We will recommend that families bring their own blankets to Reading Rocks this year. We will also have bookmarks for the students everyday to go along with the book they have chosen to take home with them. We are excited to help students grow their home libraries and improve their literacy over the summer.
Volunteers will be a key in making this year's Reading Rocks a success for students. We are happy to be running the program with a more normal schedule and excited to get books into children's hands.
We will begin Reading Rocks on June 14th and end on July 22nd.
Here is our 2021 schedule:
Please complete the electronic volunteer form to confirm your participation. There are several training dates for this year and options either via Zoom or in a group setting outside. The training this year will discuss health and safety protocols and volunteer expectations in helping students find a book to help build a home library.
*We will not have Reading Rocks on Monday the 5th of July
