Fatherhood and Gender-Based Violence

In honor of Father's Day, let's engage in a rich, authentic, diverse and intentional dialogue about fatherhood, gender norms and how they relate to healthy masculinity.  This session will be led by sexual violence and domestic violence practitioners who will dialogue and respond to your partipcation about fatherhood and gendered-based violence. 

The Courageous Conversation will be faciliated by Russ Funk, a long time educator and community organizer promoing healthy masculinities, equity, diversity and justice. Funk focues on creating systlems-level changes with commuities, campuses and organizations to mobilzie men to help end violence against women.

This free virtual event is for the general community of fathers including  soon-to-be dads. Before you join the conversation, please think about your responses to the following questions: 

  • Have you ever felt trapped in the "Man Box"? It's a term that implies a rigid set of expections and perceptions about what is "manly behavior."
  • If you were a witness to harm being done to woman, do you feel confident in your ability to intervene?
  • How was the relationship with your father?
  • Have you been impacted as a particpant or bystander by domestic violence, sexual violence or intimate partner vioelnce?
  • Can you recall a time that you personally intervened as you were witnessing violence and/or harm toward a woman?
