Day of Learning & Sharing

Post-Traumatic Growth: Facilitating Transformation in our RC Communities

Post-traumatic growth states that those who experience highly challenging life circumstances--where one’s core beliefs are rattled and psychological struggle is endured--can ultimately experience a sense of personal growth and transformation. This past year, RC treaters and organizations have faced unprecedented challenges in the form of perpetual racial violence and trauma, deeply polarizing political division and violence, and the devastating global COVID-19 pandemic. Individually and collectively we have endured tremendous harm and loss. All of this, in addition to the standard occupational hazard of supporting trauma survivors – vicarious traumatization – creates a deep need for connection and an opportunity for transformation in our RC community.

In timely fashion, this event will include safe space for naming and discussing the adversity and trauma experienced in our RC communities this past year. Grounded in these shared experiences, an overview of the Post-Traumatic Growth Framework will be presented. We will then apply the framework to RC treaters and agencies, both to honor our losses and to facilitate growth and transformation. Activities will include reflection and story sharing, narrative development, connections to Risking Connection concepts and practices, and lots of small group connection.

For the first time ever, the RC Day of Learning and Sharing will be open to RC Trainers, Champions and ALL agency staff in our growing RC community!
