AR/VR in the Blue Economy

From training to product development to decision making in complex environments, Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) are rapidly transforming business and the economy. As adoption expands across industries AR/VR has the potential to deliver a $1.5 trillion boost to the global economy by 2030.

What does this mean for the blue economy? Join AR/VR leaders as they explore the possibilities of how these two emerging sectors can work together to build our understanding of oceans and drive innovation for decades to come.

  • Charles Lavigne, President and CEO, LlamaZOO Inc, will discuss LlamaZOO's spatial data platform "Spatial BI" and how it is used today to enable better land stewardship by First Nations, engineering, planning by industry, and stakeholder alignment between all stakeholders including regulator, and how VR and AR play a critical role in the future of spatial data and the ocean economy.
  • Lieutenant Commander Chris Pedrick of the Naval Training Development Center will discuss his unit’s recent campaign to leverage from Technology Enabled Learning (TEL) modalities for ocean and maritime skills training. This includes but is not limited to using Augmented and Virtual Reality to practice maintenance routines as well as leveraging additive manufacturing to create mock-ups and expose sailors to industry 4.0.
  • Scott Dewis, CVO and Co-Founder, RaceRocks, will discuss how the power of technology enabled learning, specifically virtual reality (VR), is being harnessed to create truly immersive experiences to advance the state of training and deliver cost-effective opportunities, particularly when high risk, low asset availability, or high operation costs are associated with traditional live training methods.

Each speaker will provide a presentation of their innovative work followed by a moderated discussion.
