This workshop will focus on the impact of attachment trauma on the adult survivor. Emphasis will be placed on understanding the structural, emotional, and cognitive developmental derailments resulting from childhood/attachment trauma and how this is manifested in the therapeutic relationship. Implications for clinical interventions will be reviewed with special attention given to transference and countertransference. |

About the Presenter
Dean Scher, PhD, ACSW has worked in human services for over 45 years and most recently served as the CEO of Catholic Charities of Orange, Sullivan, and Ulster from 2006 until April 2021.
From 1974 to 1995 he was employed as a psychologist and Director of Psychiatric Emergency Services at Arden Hill Hospital Mental Health Unit. During that period, Dean was also a Lecturer with the psychology department at SUNY New Paltz.
Dean has lectured extensively on issues of adverse childhood experiences, addiction, and PTSD. His clinical focus has been on the preverbal dialogue in the therapeutic relationship. His research on alexithymia was published in the Journal of Child Sex Abuse.
Dean has maintained a private practice in since 1974.
