'Where the turf meets the surf'

Celebrate the end of the pandemic in style: thoroughbred horse racing excitement in a luxurious sky box!

You deserve this! After a year of pandemic-induced lockdowns and other misery, we have medicine almost as powerful as a COVID-19 vaccine -- the return of our popular "Day at the Races" at beautiful Del Mar Race Track. Can you think of a better way to reward your loyal employees? Recognize a special customer? Pamper your long-suffering spouse?  This memorable event will take place on Saturday, July 17. It's a classy way for you to invest in the most important relationships in your life. And who knows? You just might see the next superstar horse in the making. The 2014 Kentucky Derby winner, California Chrome, raced at Del Mar prior to his legendary run for the roses.

The association has reserved a luxury suite at the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club for the opening weekend of the  American Pharoah with Victor Espinosa aboard at Del Mar 2014 horseracing season at the seaside track. The "Star Fiddle Skyroom" boasts panoramic views from a private balcony close to the finish line, with its own betting windows, access to grounds, a fabulous lunch, snacks and a no-host bar. The event is family-friendly.

The suite will be open at noon. The first race is at 2 p.m., and runs until about 6 p.m.

Tickets are just $129 (CalAPA Member rate) per person and must be purchased by July 9. Tickets will be mailed in advance to the person who places the order. Tickets purchased after July 9 will incur additional shipping fees.

The Del Mar Race Track is located on the beach in northern San Diego County, just off Interstate 5. The train is a popular way to travel to the event. Both Amtrak and Coaster (local commuter) trains stop at the nearby Solana Beach station. Del Mar provides a free shuttle (double-decker buses) to and from the track. CalAPA does not provide transportation for this event. Click HERE for a list of the various transportation options, schedules and pricing.
Important note on parking (new this year!): If you are driving to Del Mar, parking at the fairgrounds must be purchased in advance. There will be no on-site parking attendants or sales. Information on how to purchase your parking permit in advance is HERE.

Don't delay! Our last event sold out quickly. Space is limited and tickets for this event will be on a first-come, first served basis, and pre-registration is required. For information on this event, please contact Sophie You of CalAPA at 916-791-5044. Please note: When you register please include the mailing address where you want the tickets sent.

Del Mar, "Where the turf meets the surf," is not only one of the most scenic race tracks in the world, it's also rich with history, with new and exciting chapters being written each year. Legendary thoroughbreds that have thrilled crowds at Del Mar include Seabiscuit, Zenyatta, Silver Charm and local sensation California Chrome. Hall of Fame jockeys who have ridden to glory at Del Mar have included Jimmy Shoemaker and Laffit Pincay Jr., and new stars like "California Chrome" jockey Victor Espinoza. Legendary trainers who have made their mark at Del Mar include. D. Wayne Lukas, Doug O'Neill, Charlie Wittingham and Bob Baffert (pictured in the winner's circle at a CalAPA-sponsored race).
CalAPA members tell us opening weekend at Del Mar is one of the highlights of the year. Join us July 17 and maybe you'll get to see the next chapter of horse-racing history written for yourself! At minimum, you'll take away happy memories that will last a lifetime.
