Critically acclaimed Chicago-based writer Fern Schumer Chapman has written several award-winning books. Her memoir, MOTHERLAND -- a Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Writers selection, a finalist for the National Jewish Book Award, and a BookSense76 pick -- is a popular choice for book clubs. Her other books, IS IT NIGHT OR DAY?, LIKE FINDING MY TWIN, and STUMBLING ON HISTORY are used in middle school classrooms. In 2004, the Illinois Association of Teachers of English (IATE) named Chapman the "Illinois Author of the Year." Twice, Oprah Winfrey shows have featured her books.

Summary: One afternoon in the spring of 1972, a Mack truck sped through a residential intersection of Philadelphia and collided with a station wagon carrying a young girl and her friend on a ride home from school. The accident shattered the girl’s realities and a blanket of silence fell over them until they reconnected at their twentieth high school reunion. That conversation set Ellen Blum Barish on a twenty-year journey, reflected in seven springs, that reunited her to her past, her self, and what she now understands as faith.

Bio: Ellen Blum Barish’s award-winning personal essays have appeared in numerous newspapers and literary publications, aired on Chicago Public Radio, and told on many Chicago-area storytelling stages. She is also the author of the essay collection Views from the Home Office Window: On Motherhood, Family and Life and her literary publication Thread earned four notables in Best American Essays. Ellen facilitates writing workshops and works privately with writers on personal narrative.
