Let The People Decide Film and Panel Discussion

The documentary Let The People Decide explores the history of the struggle of voting rights from the 1960's through the present day. The story connects the dots across the decades to show how the hotly debated issues of race & voting did not spring from a vacuum, but have been woven into the fabric of our society for generations.

After registering for this event, you'll receive a link to view the 108-minute documentary at a time of your convenience.

You'll also be sent a Zoom link to participate in the July 13 (5pm-6:30pm) panel discussion featuring film-maker Gavin Guerra, civil rights activists Bob Zellner and Derick Smith and poet-musician Yara Allen and, using the same Zoom link, you may optionally choose to view the film just prior to the panel discussion, at 3pm on July 13.

There is a suggested donation of $5 per viewer/attendee.  The proceeds from this event will be divided 50/50 between the sponsoring organizations and the film maker to pay for world-wide distribution rights on the historical footage used in the film.

This event is sponsored by: Asian Americans in Action, Christ our Redeemer AME Church, OC Human Relations and WAVE (Women for American Values and Ethics).

AGENDA:

  1. Film screening 3-4:45 pm (optional, you may also view at a time of your choosing)
  2. Panel Discussion with filmmaker and guests 5-6:30 pm

"Essential viewing for anyone who wants to understand the history of the struggle for voting rights in America, and why that struggle continues today".- Dale Ho, Director, ACLU Voting Rights Project
