Composting

Have you considered making a compost pile?

Composting is a method of decomposing organic solid wastes used to recycle material known as compost, which is useful for plants as fertilizer. In this 3- hour hands-on workshop, you will learn the benefits of composting, the best location, common problems and issues, and what to compost and why along with other topics.

Compost is organic material added to soil to help grow plants.  Yard waste and food scraps make up the majority of what we throw away and instead we can use these to compost.  Making composts are helpful to the environment as well, since we reduce the space in the landfills reducing the release of methane, a potent greenhouse gas.

Some topics to be discussed are:

  • Composting Basics
  • What to Compost
  • What not to Compost and Why
