Boots on the Ground: Employment Consultant Community of Practice Finale

In collaboration with the Washington State Developmental Disabilities Administration, Wise is pleased to announce the Boots on the Ground: Employment Consultant Community of Practice! Comprised of two sessions per week, this Community of Practice will offer hands on examples and opportunities to see innovative direct service from employment providers across the State of Washington.

Following the Boots Through the Pandemic and Beyond

Please join us on Tuesday, July 27 for our Boots Finale, "Following the Boots Through the Pandemic and Beyond" with Dr. David Mank and the Wise Team.

Get ready to stomp your feet and kick up your heels because the final session in the Boots on the Ground Series is happening! Join us for our last session of the 2021 series where we reflect on the series as a whole, behind and in the scenes. We will be joined by Dr. David Mank who will share his observations, and the data collected throughout this series. 

Dr. Mank will give an overview of how the information he gathered was put into a comprehensive report, which tracked the outcome of the project. We wouldn’t end the series without  a little fun… participants are encouraged to join for trivia, interactive teamwork activities, and highly encouraged to show up wearing your best boot forward.
 
Make sure you are signed up for the boot shop before you register for the event. There will be some live interaction activities you won’t want to miss. Also, did we mention there are prizes?

Learning Objectives:
  • Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the Boots on the Ground Project as a whole: from the inception of the series, to the final report.
  • Participants will gain an understanding of the value of leaning on and empowering members of your community who are actively working in the evolving employment climate and how to amplify voices of people who are actively "doing the work."
  • Participants will get the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues in an  interactive workshop style trivia session and hands on "Boot Shop" exploration.

Meet the Panel:

 

Dr. David Mank

 David Michael Mank, Ph.D., is Professor Emeritus, Indiana University. As a writer and researcher, Dr. Mank has an extensive background in the education and employment for persons with disabilities. He has authored or coauthored dozens of articles and book chapters. His interests also include transition from school to work and community living. Mank is a member of the editorial boards of the Research and Practice for Persons with Severe Disabilities (TASH), the Journal of Vocational Rehabilitation, the Journal of Disability Policy Studies, and the journal, Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. He is Past President of the Association of University Centers on Disabilities. He was a founding board member of APSE, Association of People Supporting Employment First. He has received the Franklin Smith Award for National Distinguished Service from The Arc of the United States and the Distinguished Achievement Award from the Association of University Centers on Disabilities. In January 2015, Mank was appointed by the U. S. Secretary of Labor to the Advisory Committee on Increasing Competitive Integrated Employment for Individuals with Disabilities, which was created in the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act. He was subsequently elected Chair of the Committee.
