August 19, 2021 Presbytery Meeting

Please join the Presbytery of West Virginia for the August 19, 2021 Stated Presbytery Meeting at Bream Memorial Presbyterian Church in Charleston. In addition to the afternoon's business, the morning's educational focus will be Why Are We Discussing Racism in Church?, a presentation on implicit bias by Cindy Kohlmann, the Connectional Presbyter and Stated Clerk for the New Castle Presbytery and one of the co-moderators of the 223rd General Assembly.

We are excited to come together for our first in-person Presbytery meeting since February 2020. The Leadership Team has made a number of decisions to help keep participants at the meeting safe. The sanctuary where the meeting takes place is set up to accommodate recommended social distancing; Presbyters and guests are reminded to observe social distancing outside the sanctuary. Following the latest CDC guidance, all participants will be required to mask indoors. There will be no congregational singing during worship and throughout the business meeting.

Before the meeting, you are invited to watch the Overview of the Day: Highlights and What to Expect video, which will be posted on the presbytery website and emailed to participants no later than August 16. It is for all who would like to know more about the business of the day, but it is especially helpful for first-time attendees.

The Presbytery is now providing an opportunity to engage in mission at each in-person Stated Presbytery Meeting, with each commissioner encouraged to bring an item designated by the host church to benefit one of its missions. For the August 19 Stated Presbytery Meeting, Bream has requested non-perishable canned meats and proteins with a pop-top lid for its food pantry.

Please remember that the presbytery no longer prints meeting packets except upon request. The packet will be emailed to those who receive our newsletter and posted on the presbytery website on August 9; please either print a copy at home or download the packet in advance to view on your phone or tablet as WiFi will not be available at the church on the day of the meeting. If you wish to request a printed packet from the presbytery, please contact the office by August 17.

The lunch menu for the meeting is boxed lunches of roasted turkey (on a roll) and ham sandwiches (on a croissant) with swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato, mayo, and honey mustard, as well as kettle chips and a cookie. The vegetarian option is a roasted tomato and cheddar sandwich (on ciabatta bread) with lettuce, pickled and crispy onions, barbecue sauce, and mayo, as well as kettle chips and a cookie. There is also a gluten-free option: a cobb salad and cookie. Bottled water and assorted sodas will be available, plus coffee and juice in the morning (along with grab-and-go style refreshments).

Advance lunch payment through Paypal is available through August 10; at the door, you must pay with cash or checks made out to Bream Memorial Presbyterian Church. Please note on the registration page here that Pay with Paypal is the first option, and make sure you select the correct option for your desired payment choice.

Childcare is available by advance registration only. In order to keep all of our community safe, childcare providers will be masked, and all children ages 2 and up must be masked. In order to give our childcare providers a brief break, children must be picked up for lunch by their parents or guardians.

The deadline for advance registration and childcare is Tuesday, August 10. It is important to register in advance so that lunch will be available for you; due to catering restrictions, if you miss this deadline, lunch will not be available. Ministers and churches who need to request an excused absence should contact the presbytery office directly at office@wvpresbytery.org or 304-744-7634.

Register Now!You will receive a confirmation email after registering. If you do not receive one, your registration was not successful. In that case, please try again, and if it is still unsuccessful, contact the presbytery office at office@wvpresbytery.org or 304-744-7634 to register. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the office.
