Due to limited spots, priority will be given to educators who provide instruction in the Speech and Auditory Training Standards (#7763020, #7863020, and #7963180). In order to provide equitable access to the content and materials, only the first registrant from each Florida school district serving students who are deaf/hard of hearing will be admitted to the training, as determined by registration time stamps and receipt of principal/supervisor letter. Once RMTC-D/HH has received 20 applicants, a wait list will be compiled in order of the registration time stamps. If space allows, additional district staff may be accepted.

SPICE vs. SPICE for Life flyer
This intermediate level course is designed to teach SLPs and teachers of the deaf techniques to help children with hearing loss listen in everyday situations. Participants will learn an overview of skills including improving auditory memory, listening with technology, conversing, listening in noise, localizing sounds and more from the CID SPICE for Life auditory learning curriculum. Content is supported with video demonstrations, interactive activities for children ages 5-12 and data collection methods.

Permission in writing from the principal or supervisor is required for participation in this professional development opportunity. A sample letter is provided.In order to earn a certificate as evidence of participation for master inservice points, ASHA CEUs, or AG Bell CEUs, participants must complete eight weeks of data collection using the Speech Perception Instructional Curriculum and Evaluation (SPICE) form with students who are D/HH and enter it in the FDLRS Impact Database (FID).

If you wish to earn in-service credits towards the renewal of a Florida Educator’s Certificate, it is recommended that you contact your school district’s professional development office BEFORE beginning a course to verify the requirements you must fulfill. RMTC-D/HH will provide a certificate upon completion of the course and submission of any follow-up activity requirements in the FDLRS Impact Database (FID). The suggested inservice points for this training is up to eight (8) points based on attendance, completion of class assignments, and follow-up activities.
Central Institute for the Deaf (CID) will provide ASHA or AG Bell CEUs for participation in this training upon completion of the follow-up activity in the FDLRS Impact Database (FID).
RMTC-D/HH is a discretionary project funded by the State of Florida, Department of Education, Bureau of Exceptional Student Education through federal assistance under IDEA Part B and through a cooperative agreement with the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind.
Activities and resources provided by RMTC-D/HH are available to professional staff who are currently working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing in the state of Florida.
