Please join us for the New Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (ToDHH) Professional Learning Community (PLC) hosted by the Resource Materials and Technology Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (RMTC-D/HH). This interactive and engaging collaborative PLC will examine a variety of teaching practices, instructional approaches, and resources that are specific to the field of deaf education in Florida. We welcome all new teachers to the field of deaf education in the state of Florida (teachers with 0-3 years of experience working with students who are D/HH in Florida) to join us as we “roll our sleeves up” to develop and hone our skills to become leading educators within our field of study.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of the professional learning community (PLC), participants will be able to:

  • identify a minimum of four resources within the state of Florida that can provide ongoing support and technical assistance as they continue to develop their skills in the field of deaf and hard of hearing education.

  • evaluate their current instructional practices to identify areas in which they can incorporate new methods of instruction and implementation of evidenced-based curricula, interventions, and strategies to support students who are D/HH.

Follow Up Activity:

A certificate of completion will be sent at the end of the professional learning community.  Points will be earned each month as participants attend collaborations and complete homework and follow-up discussion posts as assigned throughout the professional learning community.

Technology Requirements:

Participants will need access to:

  • a newer computer (no more than five years old),

  • a high-speed internet connection (fast.com results should be over 5-10 Mbps.), and

In-Service Points:

Participants who wish to earn in-service credits towards the renewal of a Florida Educator’s Certificate, are recommended to contact their school or district’s professional development office BEFORE beginning a course to verify the requirements you must fulfill. RMTC-D/HH will provide a certificate upon completion of the course and submission of any follow-up activity requirements in the FDLRS Impact Database (FID). The suggested inservice points for this training is up to 10 points based on attendance, completion of class assignments, and follow-up activities.
