11/18/21 - Eating Disorders: Contemporary Diagnostic Developments and Clinical Applications

Course Description:
This multi-disciplinary training introduces the characteristics and criteria associated with a variety of forms of disordered eating. It covers Pica, Avoidant-Restrictive Food Intake Disorder, anorexia nervosa, bulimia, binge eating disorder, and compulsive overeating, among others, and overviews key features of their causes, presentation, and treatment. Special attention is dedicated to understanding eating disorders in women, men, athletes, and multicultural populations. Attention is given to critical factors in the development and maintenance of eating disorders, including personality features, family characteristics, sexual orientation, sociocultural environment, and genetic influences. Further, the medical and physiological consequences of eating disorders will be covered. Treatment strategies for those with eating disorders are also reviewed, including nutritional, psychological, and pharmacological forms of treatment. Finally, strategies for preventing eating disorders are explored.

Learning Objectives:
1. Identify the range of eating disorders, their characteristics, and criteria.
2. Describe 1-2 factors that contribute to the development and maintenance of disordered eating.
3. Discuss how eating disorders manifest in different populations
4. Identify 1-2 treatment strategies for those with eating disorders.
5. Review professional and scientific literatures related to understanding and treating disordered eating.

Speaker Information:
Dr. Greg Neimeyer is Director of the Offices of Continuing Education in Psychology, the Center for Learning And Career Development and the Center for Interprofessional Training and Education at the American Psychological Association in Washington, DC. Dr. Neimeyer has published over 200 journal articles and book chapters, and more than 12 books, largely in the areas of personality and professional and career development. Dr. Neimeyer specialized in treating behavioral addictions and eating disorders. His courses in psychopathology, eating disorders, and behavioral disorders have earned Dr. Neimeyer numerous teaching recognitions, culminating in his induction into the Academy of Distinguished Teaching Scholars.

Evaluation and Certificate:
The webinar system will track your attendance for the program day. You are expected to attend 90% of the content hour portions (3.0 hours) of the day in order to receive credit. Any attendee who falls below the 90% threshold for attendance will not receive credit for the training. Please plan to log-in to the training using a computer; calling into the training may result is a lower attendance score.

An evaluation will be emailed to attendees who completed the training within two business days of the program’s completion. Certificates will generate upon submission of that evaluation. CHEP does not and will not issue partial credit certificates
