Our entire area has been deeply affected by Hurricane Ida.  While power has been restored in some  high traffic, commercial areas and adjacent neighborhoods, tens of thousands of our residents are still without power.   Having said that, we are still trying to provide a place for people, especially those who may need a break from the heat, to gather and enjoy some football and friendship.  Our game watch location, Coscino's Italian Grill, is providing food for  people without power, so here is what we have worked out:

UPDATE:  UNOFFICIAL WATCH PARTY WILL BE HELD AT CHAFUNKTA BREWERY IN MANDEVILLE - off Highway 59 in Mandeville.  Doors open at 2 p.m.  Football games all day.  BRING YOUR OWN FOOD and support the brewery.  Donations of needed supplies for hurricane victims appreciated.  RTR!

#1 Alabama vs #15 Miami Game Watch Party

The journey to another championship begins in Atlanta as the Tide looks to calm the storm out of Miami.

Alabama vs Miami always brings back fond memories of Coach Stallings and the 1993 Sugar Bowl Champions. Preseason rankings make this game #1 vs #15, though as we know, the preseason rankings don't mean much. The Hurricane's will be looking to prove they belong on the field with the Beast from the Southeast.

Miami's QB D'Eriq King is coming out of rehab resulting from a knee injury during last season's Cheez-It Bowl, where Miami fell to Oklahoma St. 21-18. However, King's recovery has been beyond what his coaches and teammates had hoped for. The 5'11, 195lbs senior from Texas had a 2020 completion average of 64.1% for 2,686 yards with 5 interceptions. 2020 was his first season passing for the Hurricane's after his dramatic and shocking transfer from the Houston Cougars earlier last year.

Miami is also seeing the return of 9 starters from the 2020 season and optimism after defensive staff changes and head coach Manny Diaz taking control of the defensive play calling...his specialty.

As we know, the Crimson Tide is having to rebuild in a lot of our most vital positions. Tying the record for the most players to go in round 1 of the NFL draft has its consequences. But have faith! Nick Saban's providential talent for recruiting has proven to be the envy of college teams across the nation. We have yet to see Bryce Young test his talent with the pressure that comes with being the starting QB. During the 2021 A-Day game, Young demonstrated a 56.8% completion rate for 333 yards, 1 TD and no interceptions. This is shy of Mac Jone's 77% completion rate that we're used to, but it's time for Young to step out of the shadows of Mac and Tua and show us what he can truely do in his own spotlight on the field.

The returns of WR John Metchie and RB Brian Robinson should also provide Tide faithful with more confidence this season. Not to mention, Saban went out and scored a major game changer as our new Offensive Coordinator. Bill O'Brian has a large resume, most recently serving as head coach of the Houston Texans from 2014-2020. O'Brian brought the Texans to 2 division titles in his stint as head coach, before he was appointed general manager in 2020. After a slow start to the 2020 season, O'Brian was let go, finishing his time in Houston with a 52-48 regular season record and 2-4 playoff record.

We know that with Saban all things work together for the good of the championship. We have seen him time and again spin gold out of mediocre coaches and men out of high school athletes. One of the most incredible aspects to watching Alabama football is wittnessing the growth of individuals on the team as they stive to improve for the tide and reach for the championship trophy year after year.

It's time for some Alabama football! Stadiums across the South are about to rumble. The Tide is Rolling.

We'll see you at Coscino's Italian Grill on Saturday, September 4. Kick-off is at 2:30, but please plan to arrive at 2. You'll see the Sanctuary Room just inside the door to the left of the hostess stand.

Roll Tide!
