Copyright in a Digital World - 3-Part Webinar (9/14/21, 9/23/21 & 10/05/21)

IMPORTANT:
This is a 3-part webinar that meets Tuesday, September 14, Thursday, September 23 AND Tuesday, October 5,
from 2:00 - 4:00 PM, ET.

You must attend all sessions.

Learn how to think about and use copyright as a tool of empowerment rather than the tool of limitation it is too often understood to be!
This series will provide you with a strong foundation in copyright law within the library context, with a particular emphasis on fair use and what current copyright law means in the digital environment.

Session 1: Foundations of Copyright
U.S. copyright law is a complex area of law with lots of moving parts. Session 1 ensures that you understand what copyright really is, what it protects, how long it lasts, and what it does and does not allow you to do. This session also addresses the foundational concepts of copyright, paving the way for the following sessions.

Session 2: Foundations of Fair Use
Fair use is the most misunderstood and sometimes the most intimidating area of copyright law. After this session, you will embrace fair use as a tool of empowerment rather than frustration, feel more confident in making a fair use analysis, and understand how to ensure your own rights under fair use while minimizing your risk in doing so. Includes discussion of fair use guidelines and statements of best practices.

Session 3: Copyright in the Digital Environment
Applying copyright in the online environment offers its own particular challenges. This session guides you in working through those often confusing and complicated situations so that you can best exercise your rights without crossing risky lines.
