Botany II

Certificate in Native Plants Core Class

This course is a core course and provides 6 hours toward the completion of the Certificate in Native Plants program.  It is the second Botany course; it was previously called Plant Form & Function II.

Looking together at plant cell types, tissue types, and major vegetative structures provides a background for understanding light and water requirements, soil preparation, composting, etc. We will also explore reproduction by examining some of the strategies and structures that plants use to continue life from generation to generation. Specific topics include: plant cell and tissue types, vegetative and reproductive organs, asexual reproduction, genetics, seeds, flowers, pollination, and fruits.

Instructors:  Richard Clements, PhD, Professor of Biological and Environmental Science, Chattanooga State Community College, and Mary Priestley, Curator of the Sewanee Herbarium.

Registration Policy:  As with all Certificate in Native Plants classes, class size is limited.  To give everyone the best opportunity to participate, there is a non-refundable cancellation fee of $10, with the balance refunded if you cancel at least 7 calendar days before the class will be held.  If the class is cancelled by the instructor or the CNP program, registrants will get a full refund.

Registration Fee:
•  $55: Members of Wild Ones, Reflection Riding and/or TN Native Plant Society
•  $65: Non-members
