The Tide will be welcoming the Golden Eagles to Tuscaloosa this weekend.
Head Coach Will Hall, previously HC at Div. II West Georgia for 3 seasons and a key assistant at Tulane, is not enjoying his first season as a Div. I head coach. The Eagles haven't had a great start to the season, winning only once in the first 3 games of 2021. Southern Miss has come a long way from their 2011 season at No. 19 in the AP poll.
Starting QB Trey Lowe was sidelined in week 2 after a foot injury, making way for Freshman Ty Keyes to take over. However, Keyes can't seem to unlock the secret to avoiding interceptions and sacks.
Demarcus Jones and Jakarius Caston, the Eagles' leading receivers, do seem to be able to at least catch what's thrown their way, but they are still under 100 total yards...after 3 games...even with a 30-0 victory in week 3. But with a weak throwing game, it's difficult to judge if either could really be a force on the field. Perhaps after some practice and coaching, we will get to see their true talent on Saturday night.
When you are struggling in the QB position, a reliable crutch to lean on is the rushing game. Frank Gore, Jr. seems to be the star rusher, having achieved 700 years in 2020, averaging 6 yards per carry. Keep an eye out for Dajon Richards, who will occasionally get to touch the ball when Gore needs to catch his breath.
To be polite, let's just say our friends aren't having any pizza parties over in Hattiesburg.
HOWERVER! We have recently seen Coach Saban displaying his frustration in recent interviews over the blase` attitude the 2021 Tide seems to show for lesser talented teams. If we can't show some respect and take every team seriously...que the flashbacks of ULM and Georgia Southern. We've heard Nick Saban's epic rants in the past, coining terms such as "rat poison". That term has been recently resurrected with the media harking on our victory over Miami, which Coach felt didn't dispaly an ability to maintain strength for 60 full minutes of play. We're praying that Dr. Coach Saban can come up with the antidote for this year's rat poison variant.
We'll see you at Coscino's Italian Grill on Saturday, September 25. Kick-off is at 6:30, but please plan to arrive at 6:00. You'll see the Sanctuary Room just inside the door to the left of the hostess stand.
Roll Tide!
