Monmouth/Ocean Chapter Co-Sponsored Webinar:
Women as Physician Leaders

Conference Overview
The last few decades have seen an increase in the total number of women physicians. According to 2019 data released by the Association of American Colleges, women comprised the majority of U.S. medical schools for the first time. Despite their increasing numbers, women are underrepresented in leadership roles and face challenges in professional advancement including academics and organizational leadership.

During this conference, we look to increase physicians' awareness and comfort in discussing and addressing the barriers to professional advancement. We will discuss many of the challenges faced by women in the field of medicine in developing professionally. We will have an open dialogue about personal experiences as they relate to these issues. We will address pathways to success in academic careers and organizational leadership. A panel of physician leaders will discuss their own experiences and will engage the conference participants in exploring possible solutions in order to advance gender equity.

Learning Objectives
At the end of this conference participants should be able to-

  • Recognize common challenges in the career paths of women in medicine.
  • Identify the role of implicit bias and evaluate the influence of gender on professional advancement.
  • Develop potential solutions to professional challenges faced by women in medicine.
