"On-Site and Remote Workplace Resources for Resilience"

Workplace Resources

Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at 12:00 Noon

Results of this study indicate that workplace resources play an integral part of managing job responsibilities, stress, and performance.  If the built environment, policies, or culture are perceived as threats to the resources employees use to do their work, their performance and health will suffer.  For general knowledge workers, employers can combat negative effects on remote work by addressing perceived resources for user control, ambient qualities of their work point, and means of access to and time working with coworkers.  While on-site, employers can address this by investing in creating and maintaining a constructive organizational culture as well as providing employees access to healthy ambient qualities in the built environment.  To address issues of burnout during and post-COVID-19, employers could additionally invest in the right tools and technology for remote work and strengthening a constructive organizational culture.  These have a much larger impact on high performers that also experience frequent stress symptoms.
