Tech Session  "Condensing Boilers Construction and Applications"

Tech Session SummaryThis presentation will cover all aspects of the design of condensing boilers and when to apply them to maximize the heating system  efficiency.  Topics covered will include the combustion process, comparison of boiler construction, burner design versus efficiency, heat exchanger design versus efficiency, and boiler system integration.  

Tech Session Presenter Bio: Russ has over 42 years of experience in the boiler and heating system industry and was founder and President of a hydronics company for 33 years prior to joining Mestek. He brings a wealth of industry knowledge and insight to the proper use and application of condensing boilers.  

Dinner Presentation  "Refrigerant Gas Leak Detection for Occupied Spaces for VRF Systems"

Presentation SummaryThis presentation will cover the importance of  leak detection in occupied spaces for retrofit and new construction projects to meet ASHRAE 15. The available technologies will be explored along with the costs and advantages of each system type. Typical applications covered include hotel rooms, dorms, senior care, and hospital spaces.  

Presenter Bio: Bill has over 33 years of experience in the controls and instrumentation industry and is a developer and expert in leak detection technology.

Technical Presentation " The Devil's in the Details - a CEU presentation on what to look out for when installing boiler and water heaters”

BIO: Bob graduated from Nasson College, Idaho State University and did his doctorate at the University of Rhode Island.  He started in the industry in 1986, has been an ASHRAE member for 24 years and has served as President for two ASHRAEChapters, So Cal and Orange Empire.  Bob is currently serving as the Chapter Treasurer for the Orange County ASPE Chapter.  He has been specializing in boiler application, steam and combustion technology since 1995.  Bob currently works for Raypak as a Consultant as well as a District Manager.

 

Dinner Presentation "Balanced Energy"

Southern California Gas Company

BIO: Ken is currently the Business/Policy Manager for Southern California Gas Company. He is responsible for developing key, broad-based relationships with business, government and non-profit stakeholders to provide balanced input to policy priorities and direction.  Ken has over 20 years of experience in the energy/utility industry and has worked in both policy and operational capacities.  Additionally, he has worked as a non-profit manager and a university administrator. 

Ken has participated on many local non-profit boards and commissions, most of which focus on Municipal Governance, Youth, and/or public education. He is currently a Board member of Coro Southern California, Legacy Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation Executive Committee, Sustain SoCal and the Environmental Leadership Institute.  He holds a BA in Political Science from UCLA, a MA in Public Policy from Claremont and is a graduate of the Coro Fellows Program in Public Affairs. He currently lives in Pasadena with his wife, Dr. Lan Nguyen-Chawkins and has two college-aged daughters, Dania and Emma.
