#5 Alabama vs Mississippi St. Watch Party

Coach Nick Saban after last weekend's loss:

"The players are disappointed, but I think everyone needs to remember how they feel and not forget it. Because when I talk about having respect for winning, that's what I mean, you want to avoid the feeling that you have when you lose."

"Think about two things. Think about how do you feel when you lose. Think about what did you do to contribute to losing. And I know there's things that I need to do better, every coach has things that they need to do better, and every player, we did a lot of things out there to contribute to the other team, whether they were penalties, missed plays, dropped balls."

On the Red Zone: "We threw incomplete passes, we had guys open, we ran a bad route, the guy picked the ball off, we had some drops in critical situations. ... I don't know that anything went wrong, we just didn't execute."

When asked about how much of a factor forgetting how it feels to lose was in the mentality of the players going into last weekend's game, Coach Saban remembered another time we won 19 games in a row and then were defeated by South Carolina. "It's not when you get to the game. When you get to the game, everybody wants to win, everybody wants to play well. It's what did you do to get to the game, how did you prepare, how did you practice, what kind of habits did you create so you can carry those things to the game and that's what sort of eliminates those plays. Practice, how you take care of yourself, rest, recovery. You know all those things contribute to how you play games and I think all those things also are contributed to by what you're sense fo purpose is. If you have great sense of purpose in what you want to accomplish and what you want to do, usually create pretty good habits to do it because it's important to you. I think when the game comes everybody wants to win, but we need to do things better to get ready to play better, especially when we're playing on the road, especially when we're playing against really good teams. And I don't know anybody in our division that's not a really good team. So if we don't play really well, we'll struggle against anybody we play against."

Looking forward to goals for the rest of the season, "I always tell our players it's all about what we do and we have to do things very well against good teams to have a chance to win. It's disappointing, very disappointing. It's my responsibility to get people to do things in a more positive way so that we can go out there and execute with more consistancy "

Going into Starkville

Alabama should be looking for redemption this weekend. We have a lot of cleaning up to do in preparation, but don't doubt the GOAT! There's still a whole half season ahead of us. Based on the post-game press conference, it seems Nick Saban will be focusing on some new habit building and executing where it counts.

Judging by Mississippi's stats, it appears the Bulldogs really enjoy throwing the ball; rushing only accounting for 13.7% of yards gained this season. But with a QB displaying a completion rate of 75.7%, why not!

Mississippi St. is coming off of a bye week after they defeated the Aggies. The Bama defense will need to step up against this much improved offense. In Tuesday's player interviews, several members of the Tide discribed the defeat in College Station as a wake up call and that they understand now that Alabama has a target on them. DJ Dale shared his thoughts, "The pass rush is going to play a factor because they pass the ball a lot. We have to affect the quarterback. If we can't do that, then it is going to be a long day for us as a defense."

Bulldogs to watch:

  • QB Will Rogers - 75.7% completion rate
  • WR Makai Polk - 430 yards, 9.3 avg
  • WR Austin Williams - 249 yards, 10.4 avg
  • WR Jaden Walley - 202 yards, 10.6 avg
  • RB Dillon Johnson - Rushing 149 yards, 5.1 avg; Receiving 201 yards, 6.5 avg
  • RB Jo'quavious Marks - Rushing 145 yards, 3.6 avg

We'll see you at Coscino's Italian Grill on Saturday, October 16. Kick-off is at 6:00, but please plan to arrive at 5:30. You'll see the Sanctuary Room just inside the door to the left of the hostess stand.
