Advanced Muscle Energy Techniques 2022 - TAMPA 

Advanced Muscle Energy Techniques is a course designed specically for the PT, PTA, and AT to practice and enhance skills learned in Muscle Energy for the Lumbar Spine and Pelvis and the Cervical, Thoracic and Ribcage entry level courses. The participants will also learn selected techniques for the extremities. A review of the most common somatic dysfunctions in the Spine will be emphasized. This course will include a comprehensive screening of the full body and a section on treatment application for Whiplash Injury. Muscle Energy is designed to improve joint ROM and alleviate pain utilizing the muscular component of the body.

 Course Objectives

Upon completion of the "Advanced Muscle Energy Techniques", the participant will be able to: 

  • Identify segmental/somatic dysfunction in the Spine, Pelvis and Ribcage and apply MET Identify restrictions in selected joints of the extremities and apply MET
  • Perform 10 step screen and complete a full body assessment applying Manual Medicine Principles
  • Apply MET for Whiplash Injuries and corrective exercises for enhanced recovery
  • Identify and treat common movement dysfunctions of the Spine Ribcage, and Pelvis more proficiently.

Course Instructors

Angela Darragh PT, CFMM, OrthoNeuro, New Albany, Ohio. Mrs. Darragh is a licensed physical therapist and a 1977 graduate of The Ohio State University. She is the Director of Staff Development for OrthoNeuro’s Rehabilitative Services Division.  Angela has been practicing in the Columbus area over 30 years with a specialization in Spinal Evaluation and Rehab. Angela received her Certification in Functional Manual Medicine in June 2016 from the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Michigan State University.  She has extensive training in muscle energy and manipulation for spine and extremities including craniosacral technique.  Angela has been a member of the North American Spine Society since 2000. She has been lecturing in Central Ohio for the past 15 years.

 Gabe Clark, MPT, OTR/L, OCS, Florida Orthopedic Institute, Tampa, Florida.  Mr. Clark is a licensed physical therapist and occupational therapist in the state of Ohio.  Gabe relocated to Florida in 2015 where he now practices in an outpatient clinic.  He obtained both his BS in Occupational Therapy and Masters of Physical Therapy from The Ohio State University.  Gabe is also a board certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties.  He has attended comprehensive course training in Manual Medicine Techniques from the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Michigan State University including Muscle Energy, and Craniosacral Techniques.  Gabe has continued his manual therapy training with Angela Darragh in the Spine Mentor Program at OrthoNeuro.  He has completed over 500 hours of direct one on one training in the treatment of patients with complex spine conditions utilizing manual techniques.

Accreditation

This program has been submitted for approval by the Ohio Physical Therapist Association for 12 CE credits. This program meets the requirements for 12 BOC category D credits for athletic trainers. 

Registration Fee:  $575.00

Cancellation/Refund Policy:  A full refund less 10% will be returned to the participant if registration is cancelled at least 10 days prior to the event.  No refund will be offered for cancellation less than 10 days prior to event but participants may transfer registration fee to another course offered within a 12 month period. NOTE: Only two transfer participants allowed per course.
