Iron Bowl 2021
After defeating Arkansas, the Tide has officially secured a place at the top of the SEC West and will compete against Georgia in the SEC Championship on Dec 4th. But as we know, Coach Saban focuses on the game immediately in front of him, not the one down the road. No matter what season record Alabama and Auburn have going into the Iron Bowl, it will always be a tough and important game.
While the Iron Bowl rivalry is strong, and sometimes ugly, there is one Tiger that we can hope has a good day, even as we scream for him to be sacked. Following an ankle injury requiring surgery in their loss to Mississipppi St., QB Bo Nix is out for the Iron Bowl. Now a Ponchatoula High grad has found himself in the spotlight of Jordan-Hare Stadium.
TJ Finley commited to LSU his sophomore year of high school, over offers from Alabama, Oregon, and Auburn. In 2020, Finley started in 5 games for LSU, with a 57.1% completion rate, after Myles Brennan, who has now entered the transfer portal, was injured in early Oct 2020. He announced his transfer to Auburn in May of 2021, again over an offer from Alabama, as well as, Penn St and Houston. In his few games with the Tigers this year, Finley has had a 52.3% completion rate.
New to Aurburn traditions, Finley admitted this week, "Before I got here, I knew nothing about the Iron Bowl. They said as soon as I'm going to be out there, I'm going to be nervous, but I'm calm and steady. I try to rise to the occasion."
