Turbulence Ahead: Behavior Support in Rough Times
It’s been a rough few years, and we don’t yet know when things will be substantially easier. If you’re serving people with a history of behavior support needs, you know that isolation and loneliness is having an outsized impact on the people you serve. In this webinar, we will share some ideas for how to serve people with behavior support needs in today’s climate. Our focus will be in partnering with your peers, building meaningful experiences with people you serve, strategically maximizing hidden motivation, and balancing this all with a reminder to keep ethics front and center in your service. My goal, as your trainer, is to lighten your load, remind you that you are not alone, and help you to do your job better, easier, and more effectively.
Learning objectives:
- Attendees will understand what behavior support is and how they can be helpful peer coaches.
- Attendees will be introduced to how they can use motivational interviewing in peer coaching contexts as well as discovery services.
- Attendees will have some tools to analyze the ethics of their service.
Shaun is all about jobs! He’s a community developer and has worked to support people with disabilities since 2002. He continues to work in schools, people’s homes, and job sites, helping to build inclusive communities. Shaun is a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst and a certified Employment Specialist. He served in the U.S. Peace Corps in Eastern Europe, and obtained both his M.Ed. (Applied Behavior Analysis) and B.A. (Political Science/Human Rights) from the University of Washington.
Shaun uses applied behavior analysis, emerging technology, reflective processes, and mentorship to drive employment outcomes. In his current role, he’s available to work in local communities across Washington State and beyond! He has active projects from Alaska to the southwestern U.S. and eastern Canada. Shaun loves languages, and is fluent in Bulgarian with experience in French, Macedonian, Turkish, and Romani (he’s currently studying Spanish). When he isn’t working, he likes to garden, brew espresso, stare into his aquariums, and jog circles around his adopted hometown of Burien, Washington.
