Speakers

Shamiesha Ebhotemen is a Registered Nurse and Lactation Education Specialist, with 10 years of nursing experience in Pediatrics, Adult Cardiology, Nursing Education, and Community Health. She has spent more than 8 of those years as a travel nurse, which has given her the knowledge and skill set to interact with people from all walks of life. She currently resides in Anaheim, CA with her husband and 4-year-old daughter.

During her pregnancy, Shamiesha began searching for a Lactation Consultant of color in the area. She was only able to locate one Black consultant in the entire county of nearly 3.2 million people, which was very disheartening. This lit a fire underneath her and pushed her to get her certifications in both Lactation Education and Consultation. September 2019, she founded NURSEMilk where the mission is to educate, advocate, empower women to breastfeed without fear, and erase the stigma that is still associated with breastfeeding.

Shamiesha enjoys speaking at community events, such as: The California Birth Equity Summit, Girl Talk (Miami-Dade WIC), and guest lecturing at Chapman University. Currently, she provides prenatal lactation classes and lactation support to new parents and families through her business. She is also completing her mentorship hours to sit for the IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) exam, and preparing for the launch of her nonprofit: HERstory, Inc; where the vision is to provide a safe space for pre and postpartum BIPOC families to in Orange County to learn, create community, and thrive.

HERstory, Inc was created out of necessity in 2021. Birthing BIPOC people in Orange County have been overlooked and ignored for years. HERstory, Inc is comprised of Doulas, Nurses, Lactation Consultants, Midwives, Pediatric Nurse Practitioners, Women’s Health Nurse Practitioners, Therapists, and Social Workers. It consists of women of all colors living in Orange County. There are a wide range of programs, from lactation classes, to support groups for Mothers and Fathers, and community resources. Stay tuned for more from HERstory, Inc.
