The Developmental Disabilities Administration Regional Nurses invites the DDA agency nurses (RN CM/DNs), for a statewide nurses meeting on April 12, 2021 from 10am - 1pm. 
 
The Learning Objectives
  • Define dementia and its symptoms.
  • Know the risk of developing dementia for people with DD.
  • Understand how dementia causes changes in communication, self-care abilities, and behavior
  • Learn how to respond to changes in communication, self-care abilities, and behavior.
  • Understand the NTG-Early Detection Screen for Dementia and how to incorporate its use by direct support care workers
Presented by Carol Zimmerman is the Director of Aging and Dementia Programs at MAC Inc.  MAC inc. is the Area Agency on Aging for the four Maryland Lower Shore Counties.   Life Bridges is MAC’s Alzheimer and Dementia program. Life Bridges offers several caregivers programs including Savvy Caregiver classes, support groups and an Early -Stage Dementia group for newly diagnosed people and their caregivers.  The program has special outreach emphasis on providing dementia training for professionals caring for persons with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and to encourage early detection and diagnosis of Alzheimer’s and other dementias. 

Prior to starting Life Bridges, Carol served as the Community Relations and Development Coordinator for the Greater Maryland Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. She is trained as a community educator for the Alzheimer’s Association educational workshops. She received her BS degree in Nursing from the University of Arizona.
 
For DDA RN CM DNs: This training counts for attendance at one of the two trainings required each fiscal year. If you plan to attend by webinar, you must be online during the training for at least 1 hour, in order to qualify for attendance purposes.
