9:30 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. (EST)

This popular core training will provide foundational skills for advocates serving adult and child survivors of domestic violence. You'll learn about:
  • the history of the domestic violence movement;

  • how systemic racism, sexism, ableism, and other forms of discrimination create barriers to serving marginalized groups;

  • how diversity, equity, equality, and implicit bias affect service delivery;

  • ways to become more culturally responsive and inclusive,

  • the impacts of batterers on family dynamics and how to ally with parents who are survivors;

  • the importance of a trauma-informed lens, survivor-defined advocacy, safety-planning, and strategies for risk management;

  • danger and lethality assessments, legal remedies, and the pros and cons of protection orders;

  • Ohio's Crime Victim Compensation Program.

Come with a desire to explore difficult topics, share with others, and leave with new knowledge to work effectively with survivors and children experiencing domestic violence.
