Dysphagia affects 65% of people with Developmental Disabilities. If ignored it can lead to dehydration and even death. All DDA Provider agency staff are encouraged to attend this training to receive tips and techniques to provide in-house training sessions to be given to direct support staff.
The Train-the-Trainer workshop will provide an overview and rationale for the concepts pertinent to train others, with DDA- recommended guidelines, to include:
- training direct support staff working with individuals with a known swallowing disorde
- individuals with altered texture diets
- individuals with a behavior plan which addresses eating behaviors
- food stealing/pica and
- individuals who may be at risk for choking.
The session will be mostly lecture, but will also include video demonstrations and practices of feeding someone. Food preparation techniques such as chopped, ground, pureed, and the use of thickening agents to achieve varied liquid consistencies will also be discussed during the webinar.
Course Requirements/Information:
- Laptop, computer, smartphone/device to join the webinar is required. You must be able to view the presentation. Audio only will not count.
- You must maintain at least an 85% attentive rate in order to receive certification (this will be tracked)
- You must be logged on by 11:15AM. Session will close afterwards.
- Handouts will be available to download while in the session
- Certificates are populated based on the registration name. Please be sure the name is spelled correctly. Changes can not be made once created.
