Your voice matters. In 2022, Lutheran Day on the Hill will be conducted as a virtual event in order to safeguard the health and wellbeing of our participants. Even though we cannot be together in person, the goal of the event remains the same: to join our voices together to amplify the needs of people who have been marginalized by our society.
Our online event will be conducted from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. While LSI will not offer lunches or any structured programming at the Iowa State Capitol during the afternoon, registrants may choose to visit the Capitol during that time. LSI staff will be available at the Capitol from noon - 3:00 p.m. on March 10 to help you navigate the building and try to connect with your legislators. We strongly recommend that you contact the Representative and Senator for your home district before you travel to the Capitol to ensure they are available during that time. Please note that each participant is responsible for their own travel to and from the Capitol, and for any COVID-related health risks associated with visiting. We want all our friends to remain safe and well, so please make the decision that is right for you. For those who choose not to visit the Capitol, there are many opportunities to make your voice heard virtually, and more information will be provided during our morning programming. If you have questions about visiting the Capitol on March 10, please email Bethany.Kohoutek@LSIowa.org
This opportunity is offered at no cost to you.
Registration is open through Wednesday, March 10.
We are thrilled to welcome Giovana Oaxaca as the keynote speaker for 2022 Lutheran Day on the Hill. Giovana is the Program Director for Migration Policy for the ELCA, and she will discuss important issues impacting immigration and refugee policy, including recent Afghan resettlement efforts in the U.S.
We'll also learn about the mechanics of advocacy — how to advocate online, via video chat, or in person with your legislators.
All participants have the opportunity to join a virtual break-out session to dig deeper into one of LSI's 2022 policy priorities:
I can’t attend, but I’d love to give!
