This is an online event.The Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) Regional Nurses invite the DDA nurses (RN CM/DNs), for a Statewide Nurse Meeting and training on "Special Smiles: Dental Care For Special Needs Individuals" on March 5, 2022 from 10am - 1pm.

Goal: To work together as an interprofessional team to understand the importance of good oral health as it relates to individuals with special needs.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand that individuals with special needs have more oral health issues than the general population
- Understand the correlation between oral and systemic health
- Be able to list ways to help prevent oral disease
- Recognize signs of oral abuse
- Help special needs individuals access dental care and establish a dental home

- Caitlin Donohue-Vega, RDH, BS, Oral Health Outreach Coordinator with Eastern Shore Area Health Education Center
Caitlin Donohue-Vega, RDH, BS is the Oral Health Outreach Coordinator with the Eastern Shore Area Health Education Center (ESAHEC) Mrs. Donohue-Vega is a 2009 graduate from Salisbury University with a major in Biochemistry and a minor in Spanish. She pursued her dental hygiene degree from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry where she graduated in 2013. Mrs. Donohue-Vega has worked in both general and specialty dental practices as well as the public health sector for a total of 19 years in the dental field.
