This 80-hour course is designed for those officers who wish to advance to the level of reconstructionist. The course contains reconstruction methodologies, derivation of equations sensitivity of the methods to uncertainties in field data and vehicle dynamics. Interested students should have completed SRR’s Basic Crash Investigation and SRR’s Advanced Crash Investigation or their equivalence as a prerequisite.

This highly technical course requires a strong background in mathematics on the part of the attendee. However, attendees of SRR’s Basic Crash Investigation and Advanced Crash Investigation 80-hour courses will find that this training builds on the knowledge they gained in these two previously attended courses. Upon completing this course, students will:

Understand and be able to explain Newton’s laws of motion

Understand the difference between kinetic energy and potential energy and how they relate to speed

Understand and effectively apply reconstruction formulas relating to:

Minimum speed equations

Kinetic energy equations

Airborne speed equations

Combined speed equations

Critical speed equations

Yaw radius equations

Conservation of Linear Momentum

Vector Addition

Roadway friction adjustment for grade

Roadway friction adjustment for braking percentages

Speeds from crush damage

Students will also complete the course with a strong knowledge and understanding of the following topic areas:

In-line Impacts

Oblique Impacts

Utility Pole Impacts

Multiple Departure Momentum Analysis

Vector Analysis

Special Problems in Momentum

Fundamentals of Reconstruction Software Programs

Analysis of Information and Courtroom Preparation
