The presentation will provide an economic outlook, focusing on:

  • The overall economy as it relates to construction
  • Construction specific inflation such as rising input costs for steel, wood, aluminum and cement
  • Discussion regarding supply chain issues related to construction
  • Rising labour costs in the construction industry such as upcoming union contracts in Ontario
  • Shortage of labour or trades
  • Low interest in entering the construction field thus leaving good jobs unfilled
  • The impending interest rate increase

Vice President & Chief Economist, Altus Group

Peter is a well-known professional land economist and forecaster and is Vice President and Chief Economist at Altus Group. Widely quoted in the Canadian media, Mr. Norman is a frequent expert witness on economic matters and leads a national team of economic consultants advising private and public sector organizations across Canada, providing economic intelligence and strategic information. Mr. Norman earned a BA at Trent University and an MA at the University of Guelph, has sat on the Executive Committee of the Toronto Association of Business and Economics, the Economic Research Committee of the Canadian Home Builders’ Association and is a member of the Association of Ontario Land Economists and a member of Lambda Alpha International, an Honourary Society for the Advancement of Land Economics. Peter lives with his wife and four children in Toronto. 

Following the seminar, the winners of the 2021 SWA Trillium Award will provide a brief 10 minute presentation on their winning project: The Dig Down Below Toronto Union Station.

Cancellation Policy

  • Should you wish to cancel your registration, refunds will be issued up to two weeks prior to the event and a $25 administrative fee will apply.  After that time, no refunds will be permitted.  "No Shows" will not receive a refund, however, substitutions are permitted.
  • Should SWA cancel the event due to the pandemic, we will notify you before March 29th and a full refund will be issued.
