The Importance of Self-Care in the Workplace

Register Now!

3 CEUs: $30

As a nation, it seems the COVID-19 pandemic was a wake-up call to start prioritizing our individual well-being—46% of adults report having difficulty maintaining their physical, mental, and spiritual health due to the pandemic. This training provides foundational knowledge on practicing self-care with opportunities to learn from each other. Participants will take a look at their current self-care practices, identify personal stressors at home and in the workplace, and explore solutions to keeping each other well.

Self-care should not be viewed as something you only do if you have time. Neither is self-care something that should only be a reward that can be gained once other tasks are completed. Fortifying your emotional, physical, and spiritual health through self-care is the foundation for your overall health and well-being. A 2009 research article notes that self-care is not an indulgence. Rather, it’s an essential component of prevention for distress, burnout, and impairment. Self-care shouldn’t be considered as something “extra” or “nice to do if you have the time.”

Course Objectives:

  1. Participants will gain an understanding of self-care and how provider stress can affect the person being served.
  2. Participants will be able to define and identify risk factors/symptoms of burnout, secondary traumatic stress, and compassion fatigue.
  3. Participants will be able to identify personal triggers and generate strategies for effective self-care.
  4. Participants will be able to understand the benefits of trauma-informed supervision with strategies to implement immediately.
