An Open House for UMass Donahue Institute
Join campus leadership, staff and students to officially welcome the UMass Donahue Institute to UMass Amherst.
The institute has a unique position representing UMass Amherst as a public service organization assisting government, nonprofit and corporate clients in Massachusetts, New England, the U.S. and the world.
The Open House is an opportunity to:
- Present our work and highlight opportunities for students, faculty, and staff interested in partnering with the institute
- To facilitate new partnerships through networking with on-campus groups
- To motivate students to consider applied learning opportunities at the institute
- To offer an opportunity for participants to hear leadership perspectives on key issues facing society and the role of UMass Amherst and the institute.
The event will feature a short overview of the institute by Executive Director Johan Uvin, a walk-through poster gallery of institute services with staff on-hand to answer questions, a musical performance, a "fireside chat" with campus leaders on key issues facing society and the roles of the UMass Donahue Institute and the campus at-large. Attendees will be able to ask questions of the panelists before the evening concludes with a final musical performance, networking and refreshments.
Dr. Johan E. Uvin joined the institute as its director in 2021. Dr. Uvin previously served on the Obama education team under both Secretaries of Education Arne Duncan and John King, Jr. While at the Department of Education, Dr. Uvin served as Deputy Assistant Secretary in the first term and as Assistant Secretary in the second term of President Obama's Administration.
