SUMMER 2022 Youth Program Schedule

PLEASE NOTE:

All in-person classes will be held at 800 Point Road. Should a class not be able to be held in person, the course will then be held online on ZOOM. Students are required to bring a bagged, nut free lunch for Babysitter Training workshops. 

All online programs will be held on Zoom. A Zoom account is not needed to participate. For all programs, the facilitator will send you a Zoom link via email, a couple of days prior to the course start date. 

All classes require a student manual and supplies. For in-person classes, materials will be given on site. For all online classes, please refer to the curbside pickup dates at registration.

SWFIC Mask Policy: For 
all summer programs, beginning in July, masks are optional for participants, and for SWFIC staff and volunteers. If you have concerns please contact the office at 204-284-9311.  

Summer Office Hours: Closed July 1 to July 18. Re-open July 19. Office is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9:30 am to 4 pm for the remainder of July and August. We return to regular office hours on September 6.

READY, SET, SOLO!
(for students ages 11 and up, along with a parent or guardian)

This parent & child program incorporates games, interactive activities, and more to keep it fun and engaging. Led by our skilled facilitators, together, you and your child are guided in creating a plan for your child to stay at home alone safely and confidently. Discuss concerns related to your family, create guidelines, and increase communication between you and your child. *PLEASE NOTE: In Manitoba, children must not be left home alone until the are 12 years of age 

Topics include: safety at home, family rules, basic first aid, emergencies, strangers, safety in the community and online safety.

Dates: Select ONE session only
Thursday, August 4 (IN PERSON) - 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm
Thursday, August 18 (ONLINE) - 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm

Time: Please refer to the times listed beside each class
Fee: $35.00 per family

For online classes, due to the nature of this program, we prefer your cameras/screens to be on to help the facilitator communicate effectively to the group. Registration is for one device (computer, tablet or phone). Please share 1 screen with your child.

Materials needed: The Ready, Set, Solo! manual, pencils/pens and a highlighter, a device/webcam that connects to the internet and supports Zoom (for online classes).

*For in-person classes, manuals will be handed out at the beginning of the workshop.
*For online classes, manuals will be available for pick-up at 800 Point Road during the manual pick-up dates/times at registration.

BABYSITTER TRAINING
(for students ages 11 and a half and up)

This 6.5 hour training is packed full of interesting, interactive activities to teach students how to care for babies and children safely and responsibly. Our skilled facilitators will teach your child the ins and outs of what it takes to become a responsible (and fun!) babysitter! Students who have taken our course feel more confident to stay home alone, especially when they have to take care of younger siblings or other family members. *In Manitoba, children must not be left home alone until they are 12 years of age.

Topics include: accident prevention, fire safety, emergencies, kids at different ages, and employer/employee responsibilities.

Thursday, July 28 (IN PERSON)
Thursday, August 11 (ONLINE)
Thursday, August 25 (IN PERSON)

Time: All sessions will be from 9:00 am - 3:30 pm
Fee: $35.00 per student 

All successful participants will receive a certificate upon completion of the course. For online classes, the certificate will be mailed out after the course.

With online classes, we require screens to be turned on for hands on activities and to be able to have proper evaluation. If you have any concerns or questions, feel free to contact us at any time. Registration is for one student using one device (computer, tablet or phone).

Materials needed:

- A Babysitter Training manual
- A disposible diaper
- A highlighter, pencil and eraser
- A device/webcam that connects to the internet with audio
- A stuffed animal or doll (for diapering activity)
- water bottle (for bottle feeding activity)
- small baby blanket / square scarf (large enough to lie the doll on)

*For in-person classes, manuals, diapers and writing tools will be handed out at the beginning of the workshop. All students are required to bring a bagged, nut free lunch.
*For online classes, manuals and a diaper will be available for pick-up at 800 Point Road during the manual pick-up dates/times at registration.

For all online programs: Please be aware that you will not be able to attend any of these courses without a student manual, and we cannot guarantee a spot in a subsequent class if you miss the pickup deadline.

If you are outside of Winnipeg and require shipping, shipping charges will apply. Courier service is also available for a fee within Winnipeg's city limits if you are unable to pick up the manual from our centre.

CANCELLATION POLICY & TERMS OF AGREEMENT: 

CANCELLATION POLICY FOR PAID PROGRAMS:

If you withdraw from a program more than seven days prior to the start date, you may receive a refund of your course fee, less a $5.00 administration fee. After this time, or once the program has started no refunds will be made. Full refunds will be issued if we cancel a course.

I understand SWFIC will not record any sessions on ZOOM, and recording the class is also prohibited for participants.

Participants must attend on time or may not be admitted to the Zoom program.

Sharing Zoom links is strictly prohibited. All participants must register in order to attend the program.

Participants will be required to turn their cameras on to be able to fully evaluate their participation during discussions and hands on learning activities.

SWFIC reserves the right to remove participants from a course for abusive or disruptive behaviour.

Babysitter Training Agreement additional requirements: An adult must be present in the home while the child is attending the virtual program. We require a parent/guardian email address, and a phone number where the adult can be reached during the program.
