Rhode Island PBS is deeply saddened by the news of K-9 Ruby's passing on Friday, May 13 following a sudden, acute, and untreatable illness, according to news released on Sunday by the Rhode Island State Police.

After careful and respectful consideration, Rhode Island PBS will proceed with the screening of the Netflix film Rescued by Ruby as planned on Wednesday, May 18 at 6 p.m. at The Historic Park Theatre & Event Center in Cranston. We feel this is one opportunity for the community to come together in honor of Ruby's life and service.

Rescued by Ruby tells the real-life story of Rhode Island State Police Corporal Daniel O’Neil and his canine partner, Ruby, an Australian shepherd and border collie mix who was returned to the shelter five times before finding her forever home with O’Neil—and eventually helping him save a young boy’s life.

Doors open at 5:00 p.m., followed by the screening at 6:00 p.m.

Former Rhode Island State Police Sergeant, K-9 trainer, and founder of the Rhode Island State Police Search & Rescue K-9 program, Matthew Zarrella, and Search & Rescue Dog-In-Training, Zoe, will join us for a Q&A.

Parking at the theatre is free and is located across Park Avenue behind the Cranston municipal buildings. Concessions will be available for purchase.

While the screening is free, ADVANCE REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED (No admission without a reservation.)
