Not By Bread Alone: Why We Need Beauty with Jeff Polet

The Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation and Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library & Museum are back in full swing! Don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime speaker series featuring Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel. The evening will open with a ribbon-cutting ceremony to welcome the exhibit to Grand Rapids.

Our “Evenings to Remember” speaker series will include jazz on the Museum plaza, an opportunity to view the exhibit after-hours, and a new perspective of the Sistine Chapel.

Our newly appointed director of the Ford Leadership Forum, Jeff Polet, opens our “Evenings to Remember Speaker Series” with Not by Bread Alone: Why We Need Beauty. “Beauty will save the world,” Dostoevsky wrote. But how? What difference does it practically make in our private and public lives? Human beings have always sought to gild their labors and efforts, not content with things being merely workable, but beautiful as well. Beauty is intimately related to morality and justice, and thus a good society cannot be formed or sustained without attention to Beauty’s demands. And hardly any constellation of art exceeds the beauty of the Sistine Chapel.

Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel exhibit will be available for viewing for Friends of Ford members only. Please remember to bring your membership card!
