"Unlocking the Secrets to the Sistine Chapel," with Elizabeth Lev

Join the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation and Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library & Museum in welcoming Elizabeth Lev to the final presentation in our “Evenings to Remember” speaker series! Liz will guide us on our exploration of Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel, an exhibit by SEE Global Entertainment.

Our “Evenings to Remember” features jazz in the Museum, an opportunity to view the exhibit after-hours, and a new perspective of the Sistine Chapel.

Liz will trace the exciting historical context of the paintings of the Sistine Chapel. From its inauguration in 1480, the Sistine Chapel saw three major painting cycles over 70 years. The cycles corresponded to a major geopolitical shift—the discovery of the New World and circumnavigation of the globe—whose impact can be seen in the artwork. Botticelli, Ghirlandaio, Perugino, and of course, Michaelangelo documented the expanding world view of the age through the visual arts, while painting for the elite body of men charged with the task of running the universal church.

On the evening of August 18, Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel exhibit will be available for viewing for Friends of Ford members only. Please remember to bring your membership card!
