A Primer on Personalized Indexing

Program Description:
This session will provide a brief overview of the evolution in the indexed investing leading up to the modern indexing solutions such as Direct Indexing and Personalized Indexing. The speaker will highlight the primary benefits and key risks related to Personalized Indexing and will discuss various scenarios in which PI can help investors meet their unique objectives. The speaker will discuss some of the key variables that may influence the benefits of Personalized Indexing and how investors could use these strategies in constructing their portfolios in the context of broad wealth management.

Nitin has more than 25 years of experience in the investment management industry. He currently leads the Portfolio Analysis, Advice Tools and Policies team within Schwab Center for Financial Research. His expertise includes asset classification, benchmarking, portfolio analytics, modern portfolio theory, behavior finance, and risk management. 

Prior to joining Schwab in 2011, he founded and ran a boutique consulting firm, leading more than 100 client engagements and helping more than 75 asset-management firms across the world in the investment research, product development, and derivative trading domains. In his early career, Nitin worked at Citibank’s Private Banking group in Luxembourg and India, and with a derivative brokerage firm in San Francisco. 

He is a CFA charter holder and holds a MS in Control Systems from Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai, and a BS in Electrical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai. He currently is an adjunct professor at Leavey School of Business at Santa Clara University, and has taught several courses at Saint Mary’s College and for the CFA Exam Prep Program at CFA San Francisco.
