John Sperry, Ph.D.


Dr. Jon Sperry, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at Lynn University and is also a staff therapist at the Counseling and Psychological Services at Florida Atlantic University. He is currently the co-editor of the Journal of Individual Psychology (JIP). He has co-authored six psychotherapy textbooks and has given lectures in 22 different countries.

CBT with Children and Youth 

This workshop will review how to assess, conceptualize, and treat children and youth from a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) orientation. 

The workshop will introduce participants to each step of the CBT process- from assessment to case conceptualization- to selection and implementation of various interventions. 

Learning objectives:

  • Describe the CBT Assessment process and discuss how it informs CBT conceptualization. 
  • Describe CBT conceptualization and understand how it informs CBT intervention planning.
  • Apply five CBT strategies to provide treatment to children and youth experiencing various challenges or disorders. 
  • Practice a replacement strategy from Cognitive Behavioral Analysis System of Psychotherapy (CBASP).
  • List two ways that CBT can help children and youth improve their overall social and emotional functioning.

Workshop Cancellation and Refund Policy: 

  • All cancellations must be made at least 10 days prior to the scheduled workshop. Registered participants who provide proper notice (10 days or more) will be credited, minus a 25% workshop fee. For registered participants who cancel less than 10 days prior to the workshops, credit towards a future workshop will be provided. This credit must be used within 1 year of the original workshop date (no cash refunds). The registered participant may invite another person to substitute their place in the workshop (in which they are registered) at any time at no charge.
