Navigating Banned and Challenged Books - Webinar (09/01/22)

For both new and veteran librarians, dealing with banned or challenged books can be overwhelming. Get advice on where to start with this in-depth session on how to best navigate intellectual freedom, censorship, and more—in accessible terms. The training will offer a series of resources that school and public librarians can use to advocate for themselves, and will provide advice on developing written guidelines that LIS professionals can bring to superiors or library boards.

This webinar focuses on School and Public libraries as the most frequent targets of challenges. There will, however, be valuable content for academic libraries pertaining to strengthening collection development policies.

Virtual Trainer: Stephanie Sendaula

Stephanie Sendaula joined LibraryLinkNJ in 2022. She was previously an editor at Library Journal, and also worked as a reference librarian at public libraries in NJ. As a librarian and writer, she is especially passionate about the intersection of social justice and LIS, and has coordinated webinars and continuing education workshops on best practices in making the library a more equitable and inclusive space. She received her M.L.I.S. from Drexel University and her B.A. from Temple University. When she’s not working, she enjoys baking, cooking, and gardening—and will always have a cookbook recommendation to share.

This is an online class. Access information will be emailed one week ahead.
