Child abuse cases can be complex investigations and detectives have the important tasks of figuring out if abuse, whether sexual or physical is present and who is responsible.  This two-day course will explore the various means of how these cases land on the desk of the case detective, what patrol can do to identify red flags within households and how to document any injuries.  Attendees will learn about Forensic Interviews, who conducts them and how to work successfully with various outside agencies and stakeholders. Interviewing parents is one of the most important parts of a child abuse investigation, and students will learn how to interview parents and use those statements in conjunction with physical evidence to support the facts of the case and ultimately determine if a crime was committed.
